 | | Never say never. Pearl Russ, who celebrated her 101st May 9, enjoyed a different kind of celebration June 6 at Wheatland Manor. Russ was given an honorary diploma from Calamus-Wheatland High School, officially signed by district superintendent Lonnie Luepker, high school principal Christine Meyer and school board president Ryan Vander Heiden. Russ said of all the things she could do over in her life, she would want to receive her high school diploma. Staff members at Wheatland Manor made that happen. “I never thought I would get it,” Russ relates. “Never.” Until recently, Russ lived alone in Lowden and still loves to read, sew and make quilts.
