Law center work delay over bids to be made up
Supervisors approve feedlot cattle addition, reject DeWitt rezoning

By Tom Pantera

Underground plumbing work will start this week on Clinton County's new law enforcement center and bids on some work will come in next week.

Curt Schleicher of the Samuels Group, the project's construction manager, told county supervisors Monday the need to rebid some contracts has put the project slightly behind schedule, but the time lag will be made up.

Perimeter footings and foundations are in, Schleicher said, the building pad has been raised two feet, and walls have been backfilled.

Bids on elevator and structural steel work are due Aug. 15, with remaining bids coming in a week later. Some of the work had to be rebid after some smaller contractors had questions about them.

In other business Monday supervisors:

Approved a 300-head cattle feedlot that will be built as an addition to an existing facility south of Charlotte. County Supervisor Dan Srp noted that the approval was largely a formality, since the project met Department of Natural Resources requirements.

Voted down a request to rezone some property near DeWitt to allow construction of a glass-crushing plant. That denial had been recommended by the county Planning and Zoning Commission, which had received objections to the project from nearby property owners who feared increased traffic on roads in the area.
