Law center project still on schedule
Visible progress should be seen soon, officials say; video keeps watch

By Tom Pantera

CLINTON - If you're the kind of person who likes to watch buildings go up, Clinton County has a treat for you later this month.

Curt Schleicher, construction manager for the law enforcement center project, said things remain on track for jail cells to arrive on-site Dec. 11.

Schleicher gave his monthly update on the project Monday to the Clinton County Board of Supervisors.

It will take about eight days to install those, he said, and then work on structural steel, masonry, and underground plumbing and electrical lines will start, he said.

County Supervisor Dan Srp said he continues to hear questions about why construction of the building is not yet more visible.

Schleicher said once the cells go in, several crews can begin doing other work on the project, including enclosing the building so floors can be poured during cold weather.

The construction site is monitored 24/7 by a camera atop the Courthouse that provides real-time video on the county's website: http://www.clintoncounty-ia.gov/CCJail_Project

Also on Monday, supervisors:

Made first-half allocations of money to outside agencies the county budget helps to support, such as 4-H clubs, the county Solid Waste Agency, and others.

Took no action on a request by the Iowa State Association of Counties to join a class-action lawsuit against opioid producers. Supervisors could do that later, but didn't feel Monday that they had enough information about it to determine whether the lawsuit would actually contribute to solving opioid addiction.
