|Enrollment up at Calamus-Wheatland, snow plow bids received|
By Kate Howes
In preparation for winter weather, members of the Calamus-Wheatland school board discussed three bids they received from area companies for snow plows.
The board accepted the lowest bid provided by Dan's Lawn Care for snow removal with prior approval from superintendent Lonnie Luepker for usage of heavy equipment and salt.
Preliminary enrollment numbers show an increase in resident students of approximately 10 students and students being served by the district also has increased.
Luepker says the official numbers will be certified Monday, Oct. 15.
It also was reported Sue Heilig with the elementary media center received $6,000 in grant money from the Clinton County Community Development Association to purchase new iPads for the elementary building.
Student council president Abby Pewe reported a children's cancer awareness night recently was held to raise money to support research. A total of $453 was collected for the cause.
This month, Pewe added, students will be trick-or-treating for canned goods for local needy families and the student council will kick off the Thanksgiving food drive.
The board also approved the driver education agreement with Area Education Agency 9. The organization once again will provide instruction as well as the instructors themselves and vehicles.
Registration for the program will begin in December and classes will start in May before the end of the 2012-2013 school year.
