Calamus will apply for housing rehab grant

By Natalie Regan

A public hearing Monday, Dec. 10, at the Calamus City Council meeting was conducted by Tim Crabb of the East Central Intergovernmental Association concerning the city's application for an owner-occupied housing rehabilitation grant in the amount of $227,994. The city's match would be $6,000. Following the hearing, the council approved the application.

Also approved was an application for work to be performed concerning the state highway right-of-way for the Clinton County secondary roads department for a resurfacing project.

Other business

In other business Monday:

•Resident Greg Bromwell attended the meeting to express his disappointment in a building put up next to his property. He questioned if the code was followed when allowing the permit as he feels it should have been set back farther.

•The sheriff's report included 50.15 hours spent in the Calamus area Oct. 26-Nov. 25; one warning was issued and seven calls were answered.

•Resignations were accepted from Bonnie Grau and Jenny Jansen, Calamus representatives on the Eastern Iowa Regional Housing Authority.

•The council approved a 28E agreement with Clinton County for resurfacing county road Y-44.

•In response to an inquiry from the landfill, the council agreed to contact Wulf's Disposal regarding the hauling of garbage from Calamus.

The next regular meeting is Jan. 7, at 7 p.m.
