Alice Yvonne White
Alice Yvonne White, 84, of DeWitt, passed away peacefully in her home Monday morning, May 8, 2017.

Alice Yvonne White was born July 4, 1932, in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of Samuel and Freda Wenzel Mellet. After attending high school in Louisville, she was married briefly to Joseph B. Wright. Alice later married Robert C. White on Dec. 27, 1954. She worked until becoming a mother and homemaker. The couple resided in many locations throughout the country during Robert's military career and settled in DeWitt in 1998. Robert preceded her in death in 2006.

Alice enjoyed traveling the United States with Robert. She was a great cook and immaculate housekeeper. Alice was young at heart and loved to laugh. She had a whimsical nature, loved animals and children, and cherished her loving family (but don't interrupt her during Jeopardy).

She is survived by four children, Steve (Shirlene) Wright of Hodgenville, Kentucky, Michael (Pam) White of Glendale, Arizona, John (Clara) White of Marina del Rey, California, and Melissa (Mark) Lane of Long Grove; a daughter-in-law, Ruby White of DeWitt; 15 grandchildren, Lee, Deanna, Amanda, Megan, Ben, William, Justin, Jonathan, Tabitha, Clinton, Cortni, Kedryn, Andy, Stephanie and Cory; 11 great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kaitlyn, Thomas, Nathan, Zoey, Drake, Madison, Emma, Caleb, Phoenix and Oaklynn; two sisters, Mary Avery and Ruth Lockard; nieces and nephews; and a beloved dog, Lily.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Don, on March 26, 2017; eight siblings; and her cat, Bert.

A service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Schultz Funeral Home in DeWitt, with a visiting time beginning at 10. Interment will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home in DeWitt.
