Janis was born Nov. 3, 1938, in Maquoketa to Harvey and Marie Andersen Paulsen. She graduated from Preston High School with the class of 1956. Janis married Bernard J. Wagemester on Sept. 9, 1959, at St. Boniface Church in Clinton. He preceded her in death June 24, 2017. Janis and her husband farmed their entire lives. She was a homemaker and had also been employed by Van Allen and Company Department Store and Lou Marges Distinctive Apparell clothing.

Janis enjoyed collecting dolls and Lowell Davis and Hummel figurines. She loved flowers and maintained beautiful annual and perennial gardens. She adored her dogs over the years, especially Blondie and Buddy, treating them like children.  Together Janis and Bernard enjoyed polka dancing, sight-seeing out West while Bernard was in the Air Force, and vacationing in Florida to visit her brother.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish.

Janis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two brothers, Gene and Eldon Paulsen.

She is survived by many brother- and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Prince of Peace Hall Building Fund.
