Ruth M. Grell
Ruth M. Grell, 84, of DeWitt, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 16, 2017, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born May 9, 1933, at Argo Fay, Illinois, to Tom and Nettie Diettrick Petersen. Ruth graduated from Lyons High School. On May 1, 1954, she was united in marriage to Marcellus Grell at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Clinton.  The couple farmed and raised their family at rural Welton.

Ruth was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. 

She loved dancing, knitting, playing cards, baking, grandchildren's sporting events, gardening, her life on the farm, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her husband, Marcellus; children, Joyce Grell of DeWitt, Jean King of Clinton, Joe (Beth) Grell of DeWitt, Janet (Scott) Rothschadl of Lena, Illinois, Jacalyn (Alan) Sparks of Charlotte, Joan (Marty) King of Spragueville, Judy (Joe) Paulsen of Onslow, James Grell of Grand Mound, Lauri (Phillip) Burmeister of DeWitt, and John (Denise) Grell of Delmar; 37 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Ruth in death were her parents; three brothers, Bill, Eugene, and Don; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, in the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Grand Mound.

Pallbearers will be Jessica Grell, James Grell, Megan Grell, Taylor Grell, Lucas Burmeister, and Jason Burmeister.
