Marty passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

John Martin Crowley was born March 3, 1940, in Clinton, the son of John Augustine and Helen Catherine Lasack Crowley. Marty was a 1958 graduate of St. Joseph's Catholic School in DeWitt. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army.

Marty was united in marriage to Shirley Beard on Nov. 14, 1964, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf. They have shared 53 years of marriage together.

Marty had worked as a Heat and Frost Insulator with Local 81 out of Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1997.

Marty was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, where he served as a Lector. He also was a member of American Legion Post 154 in Bettendorf, where he served as treasurer; enjoyed volunteering at the Mississippi Valley Blood Bank, driving Ronald McDonald to his many appearances; and was active in Cub Scouts for many years.

Marty cherished his family, especially enjoying family gatherings, and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, a good western on TV, tinkering, fixing, and building things, feeding the birds, fishing, and walking, and he was an avid reader.

Among survivors are his wife, Shirley of Bettendorf; four children and their spouses, Timothy (Karen) Crowley of Des Moines, and Myra (Matt) Mitchell, Philip (Shannon) Crowley, and Mark (Tracy) Crowley, all of Bettendorf.; 14 grandchildren, Christina, J.T., and Joe Crowley, Kal, Carly, and Lauren Mitchell, Cody and Dalton Cale, Henry, Thomas, and Sarah Crowley, and Max, Ethan, and Ava Crowley; a great-granddaughter, Addie; three sisters, Rosemary (Bud) McGlone and Kathryn Strodtman, both of DeWitt, and Maurine (Dick) Huppert of Hager City, Wisconsin.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sharon Green.
