John W. Williams
John W. Williams, 93, of Geneseo, Ill., formerly of DeWitt, passed away Saturday Sept. 8, 2012, at the Woodridge Supportive Living Facility, where he was a resident.

Per his requests, cremation has been accorded, and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held 11 a.m., Thursday Sept. 13, at the DeWitt United Methodist Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Charles Kelsey will officiate.

Inurnment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dewitt.

Visitation for John will be 9:30 a.m. to time of services Thursday at the church.

Vandemore Funeral Homes & Cremation Services is assisting the family with the arrangements.

John was born July 28, 1919, in Plankinton, S.D., the son of Albert and Leila Morehead Williams. He was a 1936 graduate of the Pleasant Lake High School in South Dakota.

He was united in marriage to Fern E. Kleeman Feb. 27, 1947, in Davenport. John was employed at the Mann's Jewelry store in Maquoketa for many years; later, with his wife, Fern, he owned and operated Wil-liams' Variety Store in DeWitt until his retirement.

John was a member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church for many years and the Iowa Poetry association. He enjoyed poetry and was a very accomplished poet. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, playing golf and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Fern; a daughter, Nancy (Dave) Stover of Geneseo; a son, Roger Williams of Charlottesville, Va.; a brother, Gerald (Dorothy) Williams of Harrisburg Va.; a sister-in-law, Ramona Kleeman of Davenport; several nieces and nephews

John was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jennifer Williams; a brother and a sister.

Memorials may left to the DeWitt United Methodist Church or the Woodridge Supportive Living Facility-Activities Fund, Geneseo.
