Jimmie Dean "Jim" King
Jimmie Dean "Jim" King, 71, of Geneseo, Ill., died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the United Church of Oneida in Oneida, Ill.

Visitation is 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Geneseo Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes and one hour prior to the services (10-11 a.m.) at the church in Oneida.

Per his request, cremation will be accorded following the service, and private inurnment will take place in the Oneida Cemetery.

Jim was born March 15, 1941, in Galesburg, Ill., to Keith and Lillian B. Nelson King. He was a 1959 graduate of ROWVA High School, received a bachelor of science degree from Illinois State University in 1963 and held a master of science degree in guidance and counseling from Western Illinois University.

Jim taught for 10 years, served as the work program director for Abilities Plus in Kewanee and served as executive director of the Henry County Youth Services Bureau in Kewanee. He was in a private counseling practice 1997-2007 in Geneseo and most recently served as the youth counselor at Black Hawk College.

Jim served on the Henry County Board, the Henry County Soil and Water Commission and the Land Use Council as well as the Interstate Resource, Conservation and Development Board.

He also was involved in Freedom House, was a board member of the Bishop Hill Heritage Society, Growth Day Care and the World Dairy Expo. He was a member of the American Milking Shorthorn Society national board and was named 2012 "Citizen of the Year" by that group.

The loves of Jim's life included his family and friends, horticulture and showing the Kingsdale milking shorthorn cattle at the Illinois State Fair and the World Dairy Expo.

Jim is survived by brothers, Jerry (Inis) King of Victoria, Ill., and Dr. Michael (Peggy) Nelson of Creve Coeur, Mo.; sisters, Janet (Jim) Nelson of DeWitt and Janice Larson of Altona, Ill.; 12 nieces and nephews; and 24 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law.

Memorials may be directed to Abilities Plus, Growth Day Care Center and the American Milking Shorthorn Foundation.
