Benjamin "Ben" H. Kruger
Benjamin "Ben" H. Kruger, 88, of Waukon died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 19, at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Tom Buresh officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were grandchildren, Frank and Dan Sivesind, Roger Kruger, Clark Snitker and Paul Huffman.

Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, was in charge of arrangements.

Benjamin Henry Kruger was born Feb. 1, 1924, in rural Waukon to Henry and Emma Helming Kruger. He was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church where he remained a life-long member. Ben graduated from Waukon High School and attended Waukon Junior College.

He married Joan Marie Helming Oct. 3, 1946, at Zalmona Presbyterian Church. They farmed together for many years, raising Brown Swiss dairy cows. They retired from the farm and moved to Waukon in 2005. Joan died June 28, 2008.

Ben served on various dairy association boards. Ben enjoyed singing in a local barbershop group, spending time with his family and friends, dancing and working on jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include his children, Wendy (Greg) Northcutt of Port Orchard, Wash., Ken (Kristen) Kruger of DeWitt and Dave (Pam) Kruger of Waukon; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by an infant son, an infant daughter and a brother.
