Richard B. Bowman
Richard B. Bowman, 83, of DeWitt, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the DeWitt United Methodist Church. The Rev. Chris Minor-Heilig will officiate.

Military rites will follow at the church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be Michael, Judd and Andy Bowman, Scott Thoma, Brandon Anderson, Scott VanHoutte, Curt Buckles and Tony Lashelle. Honorary pallbearers will be Cassandra VanHoutte, Monica Anderson, Elizabeth Thoma, Linissa Bowman, Lara Buckles, Liana Bowman, Kara Thoma, Holly Bowman and Sarah Thoma.

Visitation was 3-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the church.

Richard Bennett Bowman was born Nov. 1, 1929, in Emeline to Edelman and Zelda Rorah Bowman. He graduated from Davenport Central High School and served in the Navy 1949-1953.

Richard married Arlyn Dodge May 16, 1953, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Neb.

He farmed in the DeWitt area with his father for many years. Dick was employed by Oscar Mayer and Dubuque Packing as a livestock buyer for over 30 years. He went on to work for Farm Service of DeWitt until retirement in 2008.

He was a member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church. Dick was a family man who loved time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Tyra (Terry) Miller of Lynn Center, Ill.; sons, Don (Jane) of Delmar and Richard (Cindy) of McCausland; a son-in-law, Chris Thoma of Durant; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Elmegreen of Eldridge, Lowell Bowman of Sun City West, Ariz., Robert (Sylvia) Bowman of Waverly and Mary Jo (Phil) Brooks of Yuba City, Calif., and a sister-in-law, Janet Bowman of Eldridge.

Preceding Richard in death were a daughter, a brother and two sisters.

Memorials may be made to the church or Genesis Hospice.
