With the way it was playing, nothing was going to beat the Central DeWitt boys soccer team Thursday afternoon.

Not even halftime.

The Sabers dominated visiting Anamosa in their WaMaC East opener, exploding for a season-high seven goals, including one right before the first half expired, in a 7-0 romp.

Central spent nearly the entire game on Anamosa's side of the field, and the numbers backed it up.

The Sabers peppered the Blue Raiders' goal with 33 shots, put 21 of them on goal, and finished the game with eight corner kicks - all three numbers are, or match, season-bests.

Central goalkeeper Donovan Good, meanwhile, needed to stop just three Anamosa shots to record his second shutout of the season.

Three different Sabers scored twice in the game.

Senior Brady Baxter had his second career two-goal game and provided the highlight of Central's rout with a rocket header on a free ball in the second half.

Junior Brett Baxter added two goals of his own - the Baxter brothers combined for 13 shots in the game - while senior Jacob Van Laere scored two goals and had two assists.

Senior Austin O'Neil had a career-high three assists, including a late feed that junior Max Cousins deposited into the goal right as the first half expired.

Drew Deke added a final assist for the Sabers, who have outscored their first four opponents, 17-3, on their way to a 3-1 mark.
