Knights too much for Rebels

By Ross Eberhart
Sports editor

DAVENPORT - Davenport Assumption continues to haunt the Northeast volleyball team in October.

For the third straight season, it was the Knights who brought the Rebels' season to an end, sweeping Wednesday's 3A regional quarterfinal, 25-4, 25-10, 25-13.

Northeast had no answer for an Assumption attack that put down 37 kills with just five kill errors. The resulting .386 kill efficiency was the Knights' highest in a best-of-five match this season.

Blitzed early, the Rebels pushed Assumption during portions of the second and third sets.

The defense led the way, coming up with 30 digs - the Rebels' highest total since a match with Tipton in mid-September.

Senior Hailey Smith led a balanced effort with eight digs, while fellow seniors Casidy Dondiego and Jacey House each added six digs.

Dondiego paced the Rebels' offense, coming up with nearly half of the team's 10 kills, while House and Bree Mangelsen each had two.

Junior Christian Jacobsen dished out five assists, while House finished a big night with two aces.

It was a final match for a large senior class - 10 Rebels seniors saw action this fall - that helped Northeast win six matches this season.
